What's the difference between a TRS cable and a TS cable?

I know TRS is balanced and TS is unbalanced; what I'm really asking is what is each cable is USED for:
Guitars?
Instruments?
Speakers?
Amps/Monitors?
Studio Gear?
That sort of thing.


TRS is "balanced" like XLR.
TS is not balanced...
