How can I make my double bass pedal drive shaft longer?

What is a good bass distortion pedal?

I'm looking for the sound that John Wetton used when recording with King Crimson.  Most of the pedals I have used sound too synthy and silly.  I want a good, thick, heavy sound for my Fender 5-string Jazz bass.

The wax of age may be removed by the Jeep Fender flares?
