How can I learn about music theory?

Is 1 year long enough to learn music theory if you can not read music?

I have about 1 year until May 2009 to to do my music theory / listening test, but unable to read music as I am a singer. 1 year is long enough to learn everything you need to know to succeed not? I was worried because many people say that your reader. Rembering need a way to key signatures and signatures of time and equipment, etc. ..
